We have won another award for our energy saving technology!

Monday, December 8th, 2014

AN IVYBRIDGE firm has been named the region’s top green energy innovator.

Fairford Electronics triumphed at the South West Green Energy Awards in the Best Business Innovation category.

The firm, based at the Lee Mill industrial estate, was victorious because of its iERS (Intelligent Energy Recovery System).

The technology enables up to 32 per cent of the total energy to be saved on lightly-loaded electric motors without restricting the motor’s function.

The Green Energy Award judges cited the extremely effective design, which reduces energy consumption, and that the technology is already used by major original equipment manufacturers worldwide. The award was announced at a ceremony at the Bath Assembly Rooms, organised by renewable energy champions Regen SW and hosted by performance poet Matt Harvey. The Best Business Innovation category was sponsored by ORE Catapult.

David Taper, technical sales manager at Fairford, said: “This is wonderful news and a great reward for a team that has been working on this technology for years. Our focus has always been on innovation in technology and producing a product that has applications in many industries.”

“We’re proud of the fact that, from our base in Devon, we have such a wide global network and customer base.”

Most recently, Fairford has launched the world’s smallest power-to-size ratio motor controller. Typically motors do not require the full amount of energy supplied to them to maintain their speed, so the excess energy is lost within the motor.

Fairford’s iERS technology avoids these energy losses by monitoring and reducing the voltage and current supplied to a motor and consequently reducing the energy consumption and the losses within the motor.

Merlin Hyman, chief executive of Regen SW, said: “Fairford has been an industry-leading company for many years and its iERS is real a breakthrough.

“Its unique qualities can save companies a huge amount of energy and a great deal of money. Perhaps even more importantly, it is a far-reaching technology already in use by many corporations throughout the world, cutting energy usage on a large scale.”
